Lykin's Gulch Farm

Lykin's Gulch was one of the first farms in the Boulder Valley. Situated exactly between Boulder, Longmont, and Lyons, it is centrally positioned to receive water from the mountains, bountiful harvests from ancient apple orchards, as well as herds of elk venturing out to the plains. The topography is varied, the zoning unique (allowing a small community to live at one corner while sharing the beautiful agriculturally zoned acres surrounding them), and the views serene.

Our dear friends Thea Tenenbaum and Lele Malferrari tend to an exquisite patch of garden at the heart of the farm. They have perfected their soil through biodynamic preparations and meticulous composting. Their chickens feast on biodynamically grown greens and supply the small community with eggs (and chicken soup) year round. Their garden is a beautiful example of small local food production. With pickling, preserving, and freezing their harvest, the family hardly needs to visit a grocery store the entire year. Recently, a herd of cows has been moved over from neighboring Frog Belly Farm to complete the pastoral scene.

Meadow Lark Farm Dinners at Lykin's Gulch:
August 20 Friday $90

Dinner at Lykin's Gulch features small-scale production produce, meats, and dairy. The garden produces anything from shelling peas to perfect green beans to giant orange-fleshed squash, and the local economy provides the rest: goat dairy from Frog Belly Farm just down the road; breads from famed Udi's baker, Maurizio Negrini, who is a relation of Thea's and Lele's; and expert pickling recipes from The Kitchen's chef Hugo Matheson.
